The Nautilus, seeking revenge against his father’s killers and restoring equilibrium to life
beneath the waves.
DESCRIPTION
Billions have fought and died to hold dominion over only 30% of our planet - the land.
This is the story of the world’s powers that live beneath the waves.
In our canon, the original Captain Nemo from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea survived and went on to live a full, rich life.
He connected with various communities from around the planet and sought to create a unified and fair government for all creatures under the sea. He fell in love with an
Atlantean woman and had a deaf son - our main character, Nemo Jr.
After his father, Nemo Sr., is betrayed and murdered by the very syndicate he helped form, called “The Deep”, we follow a now 21-year-old, Nemo Jr., in his return to the depths as he sets out to restore his family’s honor by getting revenge against his father’s killers and bringing equilibrium to life beneath the waves.
OUR RULES
- We never go to the surface.
- Due to the ocean’s pressure, any characters outside vessels are in dive suits.
- Utilize the ideas of pressure, physics, and the elements of the ocean to build out the rules of our universe.
- Keep an “Old School Science Fiction” mindset - all the machines and devices, while whimsical, are heightened concepts of actual, grounded scientific means - not magic.
CHARACTERS
THE NAUTILUS CREW
Captian Nemo Jr. (21)
A deaf man of half Indian and half Atlantean descent, Nemo Jr. grew up with his father on a powerful submarine called The Nautilus until Nemo Sr. was betrayed by his cohorts, orphaning Nemo Jr. at age 11. In an effort to save his life, a crew member launches the young boy to the surface in an emergency pod. Obsessed with delivering justice and getting revenge for his father’s murder, he trained to be a martial artist and swordsman. Together with a new crew he’s built up over the years, he returns to the depths to rid the ocean of the monsters that seek to destroy its balance. Driven by a strong moral compass, whose due north was set by Nemo Sr., he believes in only taking what you need and leaving innocents out of the war beneath the surface. His father’s core beliefs have created a new kind of leader when a man with no ego chooses to enforce them.
Avery Intrus
(62, 51 during flashback)
Nemo Jr.'s sign language interpreter and former First Mate to Nemo Sr.; Avery has become a trusted confidant and adjunct father figure to Nemo Jr. Wise and often overlooked, this man knows all and, thanks to his adventures, has seen all. Charming and disarming until things become alarming, he’s got a mind for strategy, and you’ll usually find him plotting.
Robert “Blob” Widmore (50s)
A kind and funny man with a truly unfortunate face, Blob is our comedic relief and head engineer. Consistently underestimated, this bottomfeeder-turned-lead mechanic keeps his cool under pressure and can be relied on for a good idea in a pinch. Usually seen with a seaweed cigar in his droopy mouth, this sweet man has no qualms voicing how ridiculous a situation is.
Lisette Bordeaux (21)
After escaping a bayou plantation in Louisiana with the help of Nemo Jr., the two became lifelong friends. To be clear, the relationship between Nemo and Lisette is one of platonic friendship and not romantic interest. Despite being friends for years, Lisette has never bothered to learn ASL fluently but, in part due to their closeness, always understands just enough to catch what Nemo is expressing. Lisette can make anything taste good with the proper seasoning and her signature ‘bio-hacking’ technique. She’s always carrying a satchel of water to forage ingredients along the way. Her motto is, “If they swim or crawl, you can bake and fry’em all!”
Brutis Zlotin (55)
Unlike his namesake, Brutis is intensely loyal. Acting as the team's muscle, this massive, intimidating man is as kind and gentle as can be. While people might assume he is the team’s muscle, He is, in fact, the ship’s resident biologist. Often found tending to the vessel’s oxygen-producing algae, Brutis is up to his ankles in what he loves most. Less concerned with exploring the vast ocean world, he is more concerned with the microscopic world around all of us.
Max The Mer (19)
A trisexual Mer (Mermaid) looks human with the exception of gills on his neck, webbed hands, and webbed feet. Max is a naturally curious individual who truly enjoys learning things. Actively seeking out knowledge led to him leaving the safety of Atlantis, and he was captured and enslaved by the Angler. During the Nautilus heist, Max leads several other slaves to rebel and becomes the point person for the Crew of Free-Men. Ever curious, Max learns ASL over the course of the season and becomes Nemo Jr.’s close friend.
Antony the Sea Lion
The team's mascot and Nemo’s pet Sea Lion is always good for a laugh. Antony’s playful personality is what you get when you mix the goofy joy of a golden retriever with the expressiveness of a husky.
